The drama of the eurozone, in Japanese.

IT WAS, SAID ONE observer, “A gathering of narcissists.” And according to The Guardian, all it took was one careless Italian slip-up to bring the whole thing to disaster.

14 cars including Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Mercedes were involved in a motorway pile-up in western Japan.

It is entirely possible that the drivers involved in a 14-car pile-up on a motorway in Japan on Sunday might just have been speeding at the time of the accident…one of the most expensive recorded.

Police believe the accident, on the Chugoku expressway in Shimonoseki, south-western Japan, occurred when the driver of one of the Ferraris tried to change lanes and hit a barrier on the rain-soaked road. The driver spun across the motorway and the other cars collided while trying to avoid hitting his car. The debris was spread over about 400 metres of the motorway.

“One of them spun and they all ended up in this great mess,” said a witness.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy explained the pile-up to Reuters:

They said they wanted treaty change to be agreed in March and ratified after France wraps up presidential and legislative elections in June.

“We need to go fast,” Sarkozy said.
