Red, white, and wrong in the Middle East.

BEFORE HE WAS elected the first time Obama was touted as a smart, intellectual type of guy, unlike the dumb cowboy who was Bush. The latter’s expeditions in Iraq and Afghanistan have indeed proved disastrous, but Obama’s foreign policy (or lack of it) in the Middle East is proving to be no less of a shambles. Look at his record.

Tunisia: supported the ousting of the incumbent dictator, Ben Ali, following which the people elected an Islamist government under Ennahda and the Salafists – against which they are now protesting.

Libya: supported and militarily assisted the removal of Gaddafi, by then an ally of the West, with the result that Libya now is a lawless place dangerous to Westerners, particularly to American ambassadors who get abandoned by their Presidents. As an oil and gas producer it’s now in the embarrassing situation of having to import diesel and fuel oil to keep the lights on.

Egypt: supported the ousting of Mubarak, who was an ally of the West, had maintained the peace with Israel for 30 years and kept the Muslim Brotherhood under control. Result: the election of the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafists, who have now been removed by the military after a popular uprising. And Obama is still cheerleading for the Brotherhood; so much so, that some Egyptians thinks he’s a member of the organisation himself.

Syria: supported the movement against Assad, who had always managed to maintain stability in Syria, with the result that the country is in its third year of civil war, has attracted jihadi terrorists from all over the world, produced two million refugees, and become an absolute crucible of barbarism remarkable even by Muslim standards. The consequences of Obama’s unscripted waffle about chemical weapons and red lines have revealed him for the incompetent he always was and weakened the USA internationally in ways not seen since Carter.

Iran: did nothing to support the popular Green Movement’s protests against Ahmadinejad and the Islamist government which is busy trying to manufacture atomic weapons for use against Israel and the West and is busy stirring trouble via its ally, Syria.

Wrong on everything. That’s Obama: the wrongest President ever.
